Un chapitre pour mener le combat de la fraternit\u00e9<\/strong>
<\/b>Le fr\u00e8re Bruno Cador\u00e9, op. qui nous a accompagn\u00e9s au d\u00e9marrage de notre
Chapitre g\u00e9n\u00e9ral cet \u00e9t\u00e9 nous a remis devant la redoutable vocation qui est la n\u00f4tre : la fraternit\u00e9 ne va pas de soi \u2013 ou alors on passe \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9. \u00ab Lorsqu\u2019on parle de fraternit\u00e9, on parle de la naissance de l\u2019Eglise \u00bb : la fraternit\u00e9 est au commencement, au principe de l\u2019Eglise.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Notre monde aujourd\u2019hui, comme depuis toujours, est travers\u00e9 par une logique de division, et les lieux de fracture sociale, \u00e9conomique, politique ne cessent de se creuser quand nous ne menons pas cet exigeant combat de la fraternit\u00e9. Ce combat est aussi \u00e0 mener dans l\u2019Eglise : c\u2019est celui de la synodalit\u00e9.
Synodalit\u00e9 qui n\u2019est pas d\u2019abord \u00e0 entendre comme un mode de fonctionnement ou d\u2019organisation de la vie de l\u2019Eglise, mais comme une exigence d\u2019\u00e9coute : le choix, la volont\u00e9 que l\u2019autre me partage \u00ab l\u2019exp\u00e9rience croyante \u00bb qui est la sienne et \u00e0 travers laquelle Dieu me parle autrement de Lui. Clercs, la\u00efcs, consacr\u00e9s ; hommes, femmes ; d\u2019origines culturelles et eccl\u00e9siales diff\u00e9rentes ; d\u2019horizons sociaux diff\u00e9rents… cela ne va pas de soi !<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Apprendre \u00e0 vivre cette synodalit\u00e9 dans la Communaut\u00e9, c\u2019est d\u00e9j\u00e0 travailler \u00e0 la mission de l\u2019Eglise. En \u00e9coutant le fr\u00e8re Bruno Cador\u00e9, nous comprenions que vivre l\u2019\u00e9v\u00e9nement de notre Chapitre \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00eatre en mission.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Des JMJ pour \u00eatre au rendez-vous<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Il est saisissant de voir combien l\u2019Esprit Saint a pris les devants pour inspirer des initiatives \u0153cum\u00e9niques au c\u0153ur des Journ\u00e9es Mondiales de la Jeunesse au Portugal.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Les jeunes Catholiques \u00e9taient des dizaines de milliers \u00e0 se rassembler pour le concert de louange The Change<\/em> organis\u00e9 dans un grand stade par diff\u00e9rentes Eglises pentec\u00f4tistes. Ils \u00e9taient aussi des milliers autour des responsables de diverses Eglises et confessions chr\u00e9tiennes pour prier ensemble pour l\u2019unit\u00e9 de l\u2019Eglise \u00e0 l\u2019initiative des communaut\u00e9s du Chemin Neuf et de Taiz\u00e9. Ils \u00e9taient plusieurs centaines \u00e0 vivre une retraite au c\u0153ur de Lisbonne, \u00ab Rooted in Unity \u00bb, anim\u00e9e par l\u2019Eglise anglicane et la Com- munaut\u00e9 du Chemin Neuf. Cet appel, port\u00e9 contre vents et mar\u00e9es par notre Communaut\u00e9 depuis 50 ans, r\u00e9sonne aujourd\u2019hui dans l\u2019Eglise avec puissance. Ainsi, lors de l\u2019ordination \u00e9piscopale de notre fr\u00e8re Etienne Vet\u00f6 dans la cath\u00e9drale de Reims le 9 septembre dernier, Monseigneur Eric de Moulins Beaufort, archev\u00eaque de Reims et pr\u00e9sident de la Conf\u00e9rence Episcopale de France, a accueilli la pr\u00e9sence de
l\u2019archev\u00eaque de Canterbury, Justin Welby, primat de la Communion Anglicane, de l\u2019\u00e9v\u00eaque orthodoxe Mgr Gabriel Papanicolaou, m\u00e9tropolite de N\u00e9a Ionia et Philadelphia, et de plusieurs pasteurs \u00e9vang\u00e9liques ou pentec\u00f4tistes comme la gr\u00e2ce dont l\u2019Eglise catholique est appel\u00e9e \u00e0 se saisir aujourd\u2019hui.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Que notre Communaut\u00e9 du Chemin Neuf, comme nous l\u2019a demand\u00e9 le Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline, ne cesse jamais d\u2019\u00eatre cet aiguillon proph\u00e9tique dans l\u2019Eglise !<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Un Jubil\u00e9 pour entendre… le cri joyeux des jeunes<\/strong>
<\/b>Dans les incertitudes de la vie de l\u2019Eglise et les rep\u00e8res mouvants d\u2019un monde angoiss\u00e9, les jeunes aspirent \u00e0 \u00eatre autoris\u00e9s \u00e0 croire. Les JMJ nous ont surpris : les jeunes nous ont devanc\u00e9s. Leur soif de rencontrer un fr\u00e8re, une s\u0153ur, un pr\u00eatre pour d\u00e9poser, partager, et saisir la gr\u00e2ce de la venue de Seigneur… nous appelle et nous envoie. Ils cherchent l\u2019Eglise, n\u2019ayons pas peur de r\u00e9pondre pr\u00e9sent.<\/p>\n

… le cri assoiff\u00e9 de la terre<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

L\u00e0 encore, ce sont les jeunes qui nous provoquent \u00e0 aller plus loin, \u00e0 oser. Le chemin de la conversion \u00e9cologique est encore devant nous, nous y marchons bien souvent avec le sentiment d\u2019\u00eatre aveugles. Cette conversion \u00e9cologique est comme toujours une question de Salut pour notre monde comme pour nous-m\u00eames.
Osons faire confiance \u00e0 ces jeunes qui nous conduisent et en m\u00eame temps nous appellent \u00e0 les accompagner.<\/p>\n

… le cri silencieux des pauvres<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Lors de la table ronde de notre Jubil\u00e9 le 19 ao\u00fbt dernier, notre s\u0153ur Anne-Cathy Graber nous transmettait l\u2019interpellation de cette femme de la rue dont elle apprenait \u00e0 prendre soin : \u00ab Tu me demandes de crier moins fort, mais tu ne me demandes pas pourquoi je crie \u00bb.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

J\u2019ai moi-m\u00eame \u00e9t\u00e9 t\u00e9moin d\u2019une parole qu\u2019un jeune de la rue adressait \u00e0 un lyc\u00e9en de l\u2019\u00e9tablissement Sainte Marie de Lyon en voyage \u00e0 Kinshasa : \u00ab Tu ne pries pas ? Mais qu\u2019as-tu v\u00e9cu de si dramatique pour que tu ne puisses pas croire \u00e0 l\u2019amour de Dieu ?\u00bb. Je ne sais pas ce que le jeune lyonnais a fait de cette parole, je sais simplement qu\u2019aujourd\u2019hui il est pr\u00eatre.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Le pauvre n\u2019a rien, et pourtant sa parole est efficace, radicalement efficace.
Les pauvres sont ceux qui ne sont pas l\u00e0, qui sont dehors. L\u2019appel \u00e0 les rejoindre r\u00e9sonne de plus en plus fort dans le c\u0153ur de bon nombre de fr\u00e8res et soeurs de la Communaut\u00e9. Un appel exigeant, audacieux, qui nous d\u00e9place et nous engage dans un discernement communautaire. Un appel vital pour laisser r\u00e9sonner en nous le cri du Christ.<\/p>\n

A chapter to lead the fight for fraternity<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Brother Bruno Cador\u00e9, op., who accompanied us at the start of our General Chapter over the summer, reminded us of our formidable vocation: fraternity cannot be taken for granted – or else we miss the point. \u00ab\u00a0When we speak of fraternity, we are speaking of the birth of the Church\u00a0\u00bb: fraternity is at the beginning, at the heart of the Church.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Our world today, as it has always been, is permeated by a mindset of division, and the social, economic and political gaps continue to widen when we do not engage this demanding fight for fraternity. This battle must also be taken in the Church: the battle of synodality. Synodality is not primarily to be understood as a way of operating or organising the life of the Church, but as a requirement to listen: the choice, the desire for others to share with me their \u00ab\u00a0experience of faith\u00a0\u00bb, through which God speaks to me in a different way about Himself. Clerics, lay people, consecrated persons; men, women; from different cultural and ecclesial backgrounds; from different social backgrounds… it is not something that can be taken for granted!<\/p>\n

Learning to live this synodality in the Community is already working for the mission of the Church. Listening to Brother Bruno Cador\u00e9, we understood that experiencing our chapter was already being on mission.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

WYD to keep you on track<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It was striking to see the extent to which the Holy Spirit took the lead in inspiring ecumenical initiatives at the heart of World Youth Day in Portugal.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Tens of thousands of young Catholics gathered for The Change<\/em>, a worship concert organised in a large stadium by various Pentecostal churches. Thousands also gathered around the leaders of various Churches and Christian denominations to pray together for the unity of the Church at the initiative of two communities: Chemin Neuf and Taiz\u00e9. Several hundred people took part in a retreat in the heart of Lisbon, \u00ab\u00a0Rooted in Unity\u00a0\u00bb, led by the Anglican Church and the Chemin Neuf Community. This call, made against all odds by our Community over the last 50 years, resonates powerfully in the Church today. For example, at the episcopal ordination of our brother Etienne Vet\u00f6 in Reims cathedral on September 9, Archbishop Eric de Moulins Beaufort of Reims, President of the French Episcopal Conference, welcomed the presence of the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, Primate of the Anglican Communion, the Orthodox Bishop Gabriel Papanicolaou, Metropolitan of Nea Ionia and Philadelphia, and several evangelical or Pentecostal pastors as the grace that the Catholic Church is called to seize today.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

May our Chemin Neuf Community, as Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline has asked us, never cease to be this prophetic spur in the Church!<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A Jubilee to hear… the joyful cry of young people<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In the uncertainties of the life of the Church and the shifting landmarks of an anguished world, young people aspire to be allowed to believe. The WYD surprised us: young people were ahead of us. Their thirst to meet a brother, a sister, a priest to share, and to grasp the grace of the Lord’s coming… calls us and sends us out. They are looking for the Church, so let’s not be afraid to respond.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

… the thirsty cry of the earth<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Here again, it is young people who are challenging us to go further, to dare. The path of ecological conversion is still ahead of us, and we are often walking along it with the feeling that we are blind. As always, this ecological conversion is a question of salvation for our world and for ourselves. Let us dare to trust these young people who are leading us and at the same time calling on us to accompany them.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

… the silent cry of the poor<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

During our Jubilee round table on 19 August, our sister Anne-Cathy Graber shared with us the words of a street woman she was learning to care for: \u00ab\u00a0You ask me to shout less, but you don’t ask me why I shout\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

I myself witnessed a young man from the street say to a secondary school pupil from Sainte Marie de Lyon on a trip to Kinshasa: \u00ab\u00a0Don’t you pray? But what have you been through that is so dramatic that you can’t believe in God’s love? I don’t know what the young man from Lyon did with those words, I just know that today he is a priest.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The poor have nothing, and yet their words are effective, radically effective.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The poor are those who are not there, who are outside. The call to join them resonates ever more strongly in the hearts of many brothers and sisters in the Community. It’s a demanding, audacious call that moves us and engages us in community discernment. A vital call to let the cry of Christ resonate within us.<\/p>\n
